History
In 2004 group of Icelandic choir enthusiasts came together with the goal to establish a mixed choir among Icelanders in Copenhagen. The group was especially interested in tackling challenging a capella music. In the autumn the choir was composed of 15 established choir singers and Staka became a reality. The first conductor of Staka was Guðný Einarsdóttir then a student at the Danish Music academy in Copenhagen. The first gig was at the Copenhagen main trainstation competing with the announcement of train trafficing in the loud speaker system. Staka‘s inocuration concert was held in spring 2005 at Frederiksbastionen in Copenhagen, where the choir sang a piece composed by the composer Stefán Arason specielly conducted for the choir. When the conductor Guðný finished her education Stefán Arason composer took over the conduction of Staka.
Staka’s music selection through the years has been variable where concert themes have e.g. been “Staka sings Stakas”, “Music in the dark”, “Marias”, “Staka now in Danish” and “The magic of Madrigals”.
In addition to various concerts in Copenhagen, Slagelse, Aarhus, Staka has held concerts in Paris, Gothenburg, Stockholm as well as 2 concert trips to Iceland.
